King Charles 'cash-for-honours' probe – where’s Oliver Cromwell when you need him?

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed they interviewed two men in connection to the cash for honours investigation into King Charles' aides and his charitable foundation.

Former Liberal Democrat MP Norman Baker previously insisted police should investigate. In February, a full investigation was launched into potential offences committed under the Honours (Prevention of Abuses) Act 1925 – raising the possibility of Charles being interviewed by the police.

Mr Baker has said he found it 'difficult to understand' how Charles could have been completely ignorant of the affair.

Royal immunity – exempt for prosecution?

Civil and criminal proceedings cannot be taken against the Sovereign as a person under UK law. Therefore, King Charles III may be exempt from prosecution under Britain's deeply flawed legal system.

Nevertheless, Graham Smith, chief executive of Republic stated in the media that… ‘It is a constitutional principle and interpretation of the fact that the crown is the source of all power and that people are prosecuted effectively by the king and he can't prosecute himself.’

‘We're going to be writing to the Metropolitan Police and asking them to confirm that they are still continuing with this investigation and will seek advice on how to prosecute if they find that there is a case to answer… added Mr Smith.

So where's Cromwell when we need him?

The situation is rather ambiguous as Republic contends that Parliament may be able to bring its own prosecution, citing the execution for treason of King Charles I.

Inequality is rife in the undemocratic UK Royal System

Charles III will of course pay no inheritance tax on his mother’s private fortune, while the public have to pay 40 % on anything inherited over a £325,000 threshold.

You’ll get apprehended by eager police officers  for yelling “Andrew, you’re a sick old man,” but obtain the full security of the state if you’re a prince wanted by American prosecutors to question you about child sex offences.
