Boris Johnson's former top adviser claimed the government originally proposed to let coronavirus rip through the UK in an attempt to build "herd immunity".
Dominic Cummings said that there may have been no necessity for any lockdowns if the country had made the "the right preparations and competent people in charge".
He said that at the beginning of March last year, the plan had been "herd immunity" and that claims to the contrary by Health Secretary Matt Hancock were "bullshit".
"No10 decided to lie" - Mr Cummings stated on his Twitter page:
“Media generally abysmal on covid but even I’ve been surprised by 1 thing: how many hacks have parroted Hancock’s line that ‘herd immunity wasn’t the plan’ when 'herd immunity by Sep' was *literally the official plan in all docs/graphs/meetings* until it was ditched.”
“No10 decided to lie: 'herd immunity has never been... part of our coronavirus strategy'. V foolish, & appalling ethics, to lie about it. The right line wd have been what PM knows is true: our original plan was wrong & we changed when we realised.”

Clearly Hancock is the Grand Master of Spin and his self-righteous, finger-waving waffling is popular with the ever-trusting public and media reporters, who cannot think for themselves outside of the box.
Cummings blockbuster claims about lockdowns being unnecessary will come far too late for the thousands of UK businesses that have been decimated by this government's destructive policies.
