Keith informed me of the following…

“I met Jack Hargreaves in 1972 at an agricultural sale, we became friends and I did some work for him on a pony trap he was rebuilding, a true countryman and gentleman.”

“I went fishing with him many times and he showed me how to catch trout with grasshoppers and daddy long legs, a wonderful man and good friend, sadly missed”… added Keith.

Keith is pictured above with a Norfolk Reel, given to him by Jack back in the 1970s and it still has the original line on it.

Keith said: “ I have two, but this one remains a treasure to me!”

Keith added: “Jack once told me an ode, whether he wrote it or got it from a book I don't know but it goes like this:  "Serene I stand amid wildflowers, where I can while away the hours. The clearing of the morning mist, the angler, evermore the optimist": great lines from a great man!”

Fly Fishing on Wild Becks

The wild North Country trout streams of the UK hold a magnetic allure for anglers who love the challenge of these exhilarating places. Lancashire, Yorkshire and Cumbria all possess lovely watercourses that each new season brings fishermen, both expert and tyro, back time and time again.

Pat Regan the author of Fly Fishing on Wild Becks, has spent decades perfecting the mysterious craft of the fly-fisher in pursuit of wild brown trout and grayling. In this book, the author shares an intimate, rural knowledge of watercraft and riverside wisdom that is quite unique.

This information has been hard-won from years of fishing on the banks of wild rivers like the Twiss, Doe, Greta, Hodder, Lune, Yarrow, Wenning and others. Pat Regan imparts his knowledge through a series of honest, and sometimes amusing, accounts of riverside experiences.

Flies are discussed in detail and patterns are included so that the angler can try out Pat’s original dressings. Pat Regan has taught the art of fly tying at adult education classes and demonstrated at game and country events, Pat also previously won a round of the Partridge of Redditch, Advanced Fly Dressing Competition.

Fly Fishing on Wild Becks takes the fly-fisher to the next level and beyond.
