The Regan’s Lakeland connection

William Wilkinson was a Lakeland Blacksmith. He worked in Bowness Village in the 1800s and is recorded in an analysis of Grasmere and Windermere parishes.

There are only 4 blacksmiths listed in that particular area and William, who was 30 years old, was one of them.

ANALYSIS OF THE PARISHES OF GRASMERE AND WINDERMERE FROM THE 1841 CENSUS

William’s daughter was called Ellen Wilkinson. She was recorded on the 1871 Census as a Seamstress living in Southport’s Little Ireland. Her place of birth is recorded as Windermere.

Ellen married Mark Regan (my great grandfather) at St Marie’s on the Sands Church, Southport, Lancashire, 24th December 1870. I found Ellen’s father on her marriage certificate. It stated that he was a blacksmith.

The analysis clearly shows a Blacksmith named William Wilkinson in Bowness Village (Windermere). Ellan came from here, so this man was therefore my great great grandfather.

I have always known of a Lakeland connection with in our family, via Ellen yet have only recently discovered this new ancestral data.
