Southport Hospital Chief and the loss of our heritage
A leading nurse has been brought in to assist Southport and Ormskirk Hospital Trust after its chief executive and three other managers were suspended in the wake of whistleblowing complaints.
Chief executive Jonathan Parry alongside chief operating officer Sheilah Finnegan, human resources director Sharon Partington and deputy director of performance Richard McCarthy had been “excluded” from work.
Recently suspended NHS Chief, Jonathan Parry, was largely
responsible for killing off a part of our Southport legacy.
People of Southport birth have always been known as ‘Sandgrounders’.
However, highly controversial plans to close the maternity facility (thus halting
births in Southport) were widely supported by Parry.
In 2005 the Southport maternity led unit was temporarily
closed. Mr Parry stated in the press that he believed it to be a waste of resources so it should be closed permanently.
Before this the authorities robbed Southport of its vital children’s A&E facility. Naturally, this situation led to many heated local protests, including a march through the streets of 4000 protesters.

So a decade later how may we ask is the maternity services,
which went to Ormskirk, actually performing?
The BBC had this to say…
‘Last
November, an inspection by the health watchdog Care Quality Commission (CQC)
found the trust required improvement. Southport and Formby District
General Hospital and Ormskirk General Hospital were ordered to improve after
staff skill levels in A&E at both sites fell below "a consistently
safe service". Maternity services at Ormskirk were rated
"inadequate" while the North West Regional Spinal Injuries Centre, in
Southport, was also found to have staffing levels "significantly
lower" than national guidelines ‘recommend.
MATERNITY SERVICES WHERE PARENTS NEED THEM?
Southport parents just like any others want services for their families at the 'Point of Need', NOT many miles away.
When are the sanctimonious grey suits in power ever going to start
listening to the Southport people?
