Save the Brookdale Resource Centre!

Brookdale Resource Centre must 'not' be closed

Five day centres in Sefton are facing closure and one is the Brookdale Resource Centre in Sandbrook Way/Road in Woodvale.

I am informed that this specialist facility is the only one of its kind in the area, which caters for elderly folk with dementia.

Closing such a vital place will seriously deprive these old people of the loving care and trust they currently receive from the expert staff therein. It will also have a negative effect on their hard-pressed family members back home.

Cllr Paul Cummins, Sefton Council's Cabinet Member for Older People and health has said: “We are meeting the needs of disabled people by creating different options in the community while modernising day centres"

Brookdale is a special case and must remain open! Cllr Cummins and his colleagues need to realise this. Cllr Cummins is NOT meeting the needs of 'anyone' via closing down their beloved facility, which has such a great family atmosphere and expert care second to none! Such closure may impact very badly on the entire community!  Staff and local residents are alarmed about this draconian proposal to close the centre and fully oppose it.

Ainsdale's working councillor, Haydn Preece, was also unimpressed with the closure proposals.

Cllr Preece told me.

"This is not a socially responsible decision. The people who need most care and attention are those being neglected by this decision. I will fight to stop this and seek funding ways to sustain Brookdale in the future. We have to seek alternative savings and better ways to manage our Sefton budget."

A copy of a  questionnaire regarding proposals has been sent directly to all service users who currently use day care services. If people need help with the questionnaire, or further information, email yourseftonyoursay@sefton.gov.uk or call 0151 934 3610.

All questionnaires must be submitted by January 29, 2015.
