The Formby Xmas lights switch on last night was very nearly a tragic event.
Lots of fun and smiles for the crowds, yet the safety aspect and risk assessment was certainly lacking.
Traffic control was something that seems to have been thrown out of the window because I saw several people, including small children, that almost got hit by passing cars on the roundabout at the Chapel Lane/Halsall Lane intersection.
Families were crossing the roundabout to see the snowman - yet cars had not been diverted.
One frantic chap in a yellow vest constantly shouted "mind your back" as cars whizzed past just inches from the crowds...
Drivers and walkers were clearly getting agitated with each other...
Where was the organisation?
Eventually police arrived to take control of the traffic chaos...
Anyway - families, and the snowman too, seemed to survive the event...
