Southport: Riots not root cause of atrocity

Southport stabbing survivor says riots have nothing to do with atrocity

Here are a few extracts from a recent AOL report….

A survivor of the Southport stabbing has said riots which have erupted across the country have nothing do with the atrocity.

Grandfather John Hayes, 63, has revealed he is lucky to be alive after he was stabbed in the leg as he rushed to help screaming children during the attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class.

Mr Hayes believes their deaths were simply the trigger for the protests which reflect an “undercurrent of discontent” around migration.

“I think Southport will be keen to distance themselves from all the trouble that has sparked riots around the country,” he said.

“I actually don’t think the troubles or the riots have got anything to do with the Southport stabbings.

“There appears to be an undercurrent of discontent for some time about the levels of immigration and this is just a catalyst or a trigger – I don’t think it’s the root cause.”

He called for politicians to address the root causes of the riots, rather than the symptoms, adding: “I think it’s going to run for a while.”

Wise words for this victim who was lucky to survive the knife attack.

Bumbling politicians and the media do the victims a serious disservice by blaming all the riots throughout the UK on the terrible Southport tragedy.

As Mr Hayes accurately indicated that the growing fire of unrest may have been triggered by the stabbings, yet it was 'not' the root cause.

The need for a more holistic approach

Politicians and their supportive media friends were quick to jump on the name - calling bandwagon, treating the crime as nothing more than a cause-and-effect issue. Alternatively. Mr Hayes’s comments show the much-needed holistic approach needed to understand the underlying origins of the nation’s growing discontent.

One maniac, from a devout Christian family, with a knife does not create massive social upheaval which was ‘already’ festering under the surface of the nation. Politicians, desperate to appease public unrest (and make it look like they are doing something positive), may wish things were that straightforward, yet the truth is quite a different thing.

By constantly playing the cause-and-effect game politicians and media are simply ignoring the genuine issues underlying riots and sweeping the real problems under the carpet.
