Formby Ghost Ship Wreck

The Northwest coast is littered with old shipwrecks. This is one off Formby that I photographed from a good distance, with a superzoom camera, a while ago.

I am told that this is the ghostly remains of the Iconic Star.

The Iconic Star went down in October 1939. The ship sank close to the end of its journey from Rio de Janeiro to Liverpool. It usually can only at seen at extreme low tide. She was built for the Blue Star Line and launched on 28/06/1917.

When the water ebbs away one can see this ghostly shipwreck from the beach.
