Author, Pat Regan, spent a cold but pleasant hour on Southport's Marine Lake with the camera

Southport's Marine Lake is a great home to various wild birds such as swans, geese, gulls, coots, etc.

Mute swan 'cobs and pens' were busy today and  the following  photos display some of their amusing antics...

The gulls were also enjoying the sunshine...

The old lake is also of course popular with the boating fraternity.

This young sailor did what any good captain is supposed  to do and stayed with his craft when it came under distress. Thankfully, it did not end up like the Titanic and all ended well.

‘The foreshore was purchased by Southport Corporation in 1885 and a marine lake and park (South Marine Gardens) opened, adjacent to the south-west of the pier, in 1887. A further lake and park (North Marine Gardens), adjacent to the north-east of the pier, were opened in 1892. The two sections of lake were afterwards joined and Marine Drive was formed in 1895 (VCH 1907).'

A great place to visit
