Southport: branded as puritanical due to pier closure times?
A nice summer stroll around the Marine Lake....
Amazingly, the Lake was very quiet and we hardly saw any tourists at all. Not what one would expect for August in a tourist resort.
Pure Pier Puritanism?
Possibly the lack of tourist trade was partially due to the pier being closed at only 6.00pm. This is of little use to fun-loving holiday makers who wish to see the end of the pier later on in the day.
I noted several holiday makers that were disappointed to see such early pier closure.
I can understand security motives but closure at 6.00pm is absurd and smacks of Southport being branded a town for puritans only...
And to add to the fuddy-duddy reputation, from 2013 it will close at just 5.00pm....
So much for a classic resort catering for tourists. Just what is going on?
